FAQ
Dutch Emergency Fund (DEF) is a spontaneous initiative conceived on Twitter and initiated by sex worker Hella Dee. She is backed by colleagues and other allies. For aid distribution, we are joining forces with organisations like Belle Hulp & Ondersteuning, Trans United Europe, Door2Door, Stichting Rijnstad, and PMW Hart voor Brabant.
Why now?
For many people, Covid-19 means a loss of income. For some, that’s not so bad, or merely a nuisance. However, others rely on short-term income in order to meet their basic needs. For them, a contribution can provide much-needed security, at least for a few days!
Why sex workers?
We support sex workers who depend on short-term income and are now in immediate financial distress. They have no fixed salary, no paid sick leave and no savings to fall back on for basic needs like food or medicine. This precarious situation also has consequences for sex workers’ safety, because they may be compelled to take more work-related risks than usual.
Why do the words ‘Hiv Vereniging Nederland’ show up when I donate?
The Hiv Vereniging is our fiscal sponsor. They help DEF by ensuring that all donations end up where they’re supposed to!
Where do my donations go?
All donations go to sex workers in immediate financial need. For distribution, we collaborate with trustworthy local and regional organizations that already provide support services for sex workers, like Belle Hulp & Ondersteuning, Trans United Europe, Door2Door, Stichting Rijnstad, and PMW Hart voor Brabant.
